Timaru City AFC

Timaru City AFC was an association football club formed in Timaru, New Zealand, in 1968.
Between 1982 and 1995, the club combined with Northern Hearts AFC as well as several other South Canterbury based clubs to form the travelling team, South Canterbury United.
Timaru City continued on during this period as only the club's top players represented South Canterbury United.
Timaru City competed in the Southern League from 1968 to 1999, winning the Southern League Division 2 title in 1971 with a points tally of 27 and a goal difference of 43 from 18 games.
City's next best finish in the Southern League was 2nd in 1977.
The club has competed 13 times in the Chatham Cup competition, the first in 1968, and the most recent in 2005.
Notably, in 1968 and 1970, the club reached the fifth round of the competition, and in 1972 made it to the fourth round without any byes, eventually
losing 1-0 to New Brighton in extra time.
The 1972 run is regarded as the club's best run in the competition.
City are seven-time league winners (70, 71, 77, 78, 92, 02, and 03) and four-time South Canterbury Cup winners (84, 92, 03, and 05).
A Timaru City junior team was established in 1969, and a women's team was first introduced in the late 1970s and has been highly successful.
In 2024 the decision was made to merge with West End AFC to form the new Timaru United Sports Club.
